Basic Sunscreen Lotion
1/4 tsp borax powder
1 Tbs grated beeswax
1/2 cup sesame seed oil
1/2 cup hot, strong tea (use 2 or 3 teabags)
Dissolve the borax in the tea, stir well, and set aside. Mix together the oil and beeswax in a glass measuring cup. Heat the oil/beeswax mixture in a water bath over medium heat, until he beeswax is melted (8-10 minutes), stirring occasionally.
When the wax is melted, remove the mixture from the water bath. Slowly add the tea mixture to it, stirring briskly (you can whip the mixtures in a blender as well).
Pour the lotion into a clean container and cool completely. Smooth this lotion over skin before going out into the sun, and reapply every hour. Yield: 8 oz.
Please note this is not a sunblock -- it offers some protection from UV rays, due to the natural properties found in sesame seed oil, but it will not block UV rays completely. Always exercise caution when sunbathing.
